What is Pages per Session?

Average pages viewed per session.

How to calculate it

Calculate Pages per Session as: Pageviews / Sessions. Pull the inputs from your connected data and track the trend over time in your dashboard.

Examples

Example 1

4,000 pageviews / 1,000 sessions = 4 pages per session.

Example 2

4,000 pageviews across 1,000 sessions -> 4 pages per session. On the checkout flow, though, a high value would signal confusing navigation.

Why it matters

Pages per session is the average number of pages viewed per session and reflects content discovery and site navigation. A higher figure can indicate engaged exploration, but it can also signal that visitors can't find what they need. It is most meaningful when interpreted against the site's purpose and conversion path.

Benchmark context

Context-dependent; a content hub benefits from more pages per session, while a focused conversion flow may intentionally keep it low.

Common pitfalls

High value can also signal confusion.
